In view of the introduction of the eCall in-vehicle systems set to use GNSS satellite positioning, including EGNOS and Galileo, and in view of Galileo Early Services, the European GNSS Agency (GSA) announces the opportunity for eCall device manufacturers to test Galileo compatibility.

The European GNSS Agency (GSA) and the European Commission invite eCall manufacturers, such as modules or tier 1 suppliers, to participate in a test campaign to assess the capabilities to support the reception and processing of Galileo signals. The invitation is made in view of the introduction of eCall devices and the upcoming declaration of Early Services, planned for 2014.

Based on suggestions from eCall manufacturers, the campaign looks to accelerate the testing of the Galileo’s compatibility with in-vehicle eCall devices.

The campaign is being undertaken in cooperation with the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) and consists of a series of tests utilising the state-of-the-art Galileo facilities available at JRC's Ispra site in Northern Italy.

The tests will focus on the compatibility of the devices with the reception of Galileo Open Service Signals. The tests can be extended to also cover EGNOS compatibility.

The test campaign for eCall manufacturers follows the success of a similar test campaign for GNSS chipset manufacturers, conducted in cooperation with the European Space Agency, which was based on an expression of interest in August 2013 and is currently on-going.

If your company is interested in participating in this test campaign for eCall manufacturers, please contact the GSA Market Development department at market@gsa.europa.eu before Friday December 20th.
