Due to experimentation activities, Galileo users under EGNOS coverage area of GEO satellite ASTRA-5B are advised that the ASTRA-5B E5b centre frequency will be used to broadcast a Galileo-like E5b signal as per Public OS SIS ICD with QPSK(10) modulation, SVID 38 and data rate: 250 sps.

This signal will be broadcast during time lapses going from several minutes up to several hours within 2 up to 5 days between 21/07/2016 and 26/07/2016.

The signal characteristics are comparable to those of the Galileo nominal E5b signal, except that:

  • the message content will correspond to Galileo Dummy Message, and
  • the received signal power on ground is expected to be lower than -157 dBW.


This signal will be inappropriate for any Galileo service purposes.

No impact is expected on Galileo receivers, although Galileo users are requested to notify any abnormal receiver behaviour through the Galileo Helpdesk/Incident report form:
